Lavender on ITV News

The ITV London news team visited Lavender Primary School to learn more about mental health support in schools and why this is more important than ever.
One in six children have mental health problems, a figure which has increased since the covid pandemic. As part of Children’s Mental Health Week, Lavender is working with the charity Place2Be to raise awareness of how important it is for children to be able to access the help they need.
Lavender is one of 170 schools across London that works with Place2B to provide mental health support in schools. Three years ago, the Duchess of Cambridge, who is Place2Be’s Royal Patron, visited the school to talk to the children and find out more about the support being offered.
Headteacher Jodie Corbett says: “I think mental health needs to be given priority in all schools, and I think schools need to be fully funded to be able to have a provision such as Place2Be. We are only seeing the tip of the iceberg and the ripple effect of this pandemic is going to be seen in primary and secondary schools for years to come.”
