Footballers visit Eastfield Primary

Two ex-professional footballers visited Eastfield Primary School to talk to children about racism.
Leon Braithwaite and Samuel Okikiolu spoke to children in Years 4, 5 and 6 about the causes and consequences of racism and the various forms it can take.
They are part of the anti-racism educational charity Show Racism the Red Card, which delivers workshops to more than 50,000 young people each year.
The event was organised by Eastfield’s Equalities Team. Deputy Headteacher, Roksana Hussain, explains: “We want to encourage our pupils to talk about and celebrate our differences and to challenge racism in their communities.
“The workshops were extremely engaging and thought-provoking. The children really enjoyed them and had lots of questions. Afterwards they got the opportunity to play some football with Leon and Samuel too, which they loved.”
Eastfield’s Equalities Team raises awareness of inequality and promotes conversations about diversity among the children. The team has previously organised a World Cultural Diversity Day and a visit from the motivational speaker Stuart Lawrence.
