Alexander Slater opens Peartree’s new library

Pupils at Peartree Primary School have a brand new library to explore, following its official opening on Monday 28th September.
Local author Alexander Slater, who lives in Welwyn Garden City, visited the school to cut the ribbon and declare the space open. After the grand opening, he led an illustration masterclass in the new library, showing pupils how to bring their own ideas to life on paper.
Alexander, author of two popular children’s books, said: “It was thrilling, exciting, and incredible to see so many young readers so interested in art. I hope children take away a love of reading and drawing.”
He also spoke about the impact on children growing up alongside AI. “Hands-on experience is more important than ever, especially with AI growing the way it is,” he said. “Getting books in hands is such a nourishing experience.”
Megan Hardy, Headteacher at Peartree Primary School, said: “We are absolutely delighted to open our brand-new school library, made all the more memorable by author and illustrator Alexander Slater joining us to officially cut the ribbon. This vibrant new space will be at the heart of our school, giving every child the perfect environment to discover new books and share stories”
Hollie Watson, Assistant Headteacher at Peartree Primary School added: “As a school, we are delighted to celebrate the opening of our new library, which will provide children with exciting opportunities to broaden their vocabulary, develop their literacy skills and foster a lifelong love of reading.”
With its doors now open, the new library is set to become a place where Peartree pupils can lose themselves in literature for years to come.
