Brimsdown Primary School has been praised by Ofsted for its strong, inclusive ethos, broad curriculum and the exceptional behaviour of its pupils.

The school received an overall rating of Good in its latest inspection, with Outstanding grades for early years provision and behaviour and attitudes.

The report says: “This is an inclusive, kind, and happy school. Pupils behave exceptionally well around the school. They are polite and are keen to help others. The very strong ethos of inclusion is exemplified by the teaching of British Sign Language. All pupils learn to sign, which means that they can communicate with the deaf pupils in the school, as well as learning a useful life skill.”

It adds: “Pupils follow an interesting and well-thought-out curriculum. This exceeds the scope of the national curriculum. A range of interesting trips and activities enrich the curriculum and develop pupils’ skills. Pupils are proud of their school.”

Brimsdown was also commended for supporting pupils’ wider development beyond the academic and helping to broaden their horizons.

It says: “There is a strong focus on developing pupils as active young citizens. Many pupils take on additional responsibilities such as reading buddies and sports leaders. Pupils have been involved in campaigns to raise the profile of British Sign Language at football grounds.”

Matthew Clifford, headteacher at Brimsdown, says: “I’m extremely proud of our whole school community who all work together to make Brimsdown such a special place to be. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive school and inspiring our children to be a force for change, and it’s fantastic to see this acknowledged by Ofsted.”

Matthew adds: “I’m thrilled that our wonderful Early Years provision has been recognised as Outstanding. We’re passionate about giving children a great start to their education, laying the foundations for a love of learning and life that will last a lifetime.”
