‘Warm, ambitious’ Walker praised by Ofsted

Walker Primary School has been praised by Ofsted for its high expectations, nurturing environment and the “impressive” behaviour of its pupils.
The school received a rating of Good and was judged to be Outstanding in behaviour and attitudes and personal development, following its recent Ofsted inspection.
Inspectors commented on the ambitious curriculum, welcoming and respectful culture, and strong achievement of pupils, particularly in English, maths and science.
The report says: “Across Walker Primary School, there is warmth, ambition, and a real sense of community. Leaders have the highest expectations of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Pupils enjoy coming to school every day and learning a wide range of subjects.
“Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary in lessons and all around the school. The school is calm, and disruptions to learning are rare. Adults have made a remarkably rich ethos of cooperation and harmony across the school.”
It adds: “Pupils’ behaviour in the playground is equally exemplary. Pupils of all ages play together in a joyful and considerate manner.”
Raakhee Tailor, headteacher at Walker, says: “Our school is a very special place to learn and grow and we are delighted that this has been recognised by Ofsted. Our pupils are at the heart of everything we do, and the inspectors recognised our ambitious vision through speaking with pupils and visiting lessons.”
Raakhee adds: “This report is testament to the efforts and dedication of the whole community – staff, pupils, governors and families – who all work together to make Walker the warm, welcoming and happy school it is.”
Leaders were also praised for their approach to staff workload as well as their commitment to continually improving the curriculum and wider provision for pupils.
