Training for all levels of BSL
Welcome to the British Sign Language Centre
Whether you simply want to gain a new skill, you’re seeking a nationally recognised qualification, or you’d like to make your workplace more Deaf-friendly, we are here to support you on your journey.
About the British Sign Language Centre
We have more than 15 years’ experience of teaching British Sign Language, from lessons for nursery-aged children to training for adult professionals working in the Deaf community. Our training is delivered by qualified instructors who make learning BSL fun and accessible to all, from beginner to advanced. We offer structured courses throughout the year and can also provide bespoke training.
What We Do
The British Sign Language (BSL) Centre offers training for all levels of BSL, from beginner to advanced. Our sign language courses are accredited to Signature, the leading awarding body and provider of BSL qualifications in the UK.
Whether you want to learn a new language, communicate better with a friend or family member or you’re a professional working in the Deaf community, we can help you to gain the knowledge and skills to use sign language confidently and effectively.
We are based at Brimsdown Primary School in Enfield. Brimsdown has been teaching BSL to all its pupils for more than 15 years and has a Deaf Resource Base onsite, which supports Deaf pupils in a mainstream setting. In 2018, Brimsdown joined Ivy Learning Trust and since then, the Trust has developed a primary curriculum for BSL and introduced lessons across all its schools. Classes are taught by specialist Deaf instructors who also teach children about Deaf awareness.
As a Signature accredited hearing resource base, Brimsdown has been hosting BSL classes for parents, staff and members of the local community for many years. As the interest in BSL has grown, we have expanded our training offer to accommodate demand and in 2024 we officially opened our British Sign Language Centre.
We have two spacious classrooms with the latest technology to enhance learning. Our courses are run in a relaxed and friendly environment, with small class sizes. We can also visit schools and companies to provide tailored support and advice for your setting.
